Man Arrested for Stone County, MO. Threats

GALENA, MO. - An Oregon man has been arrested after allegedly threatening to destroy government buildings in Stone County, Missouri. Nathaniel Hartzler, of Oregon City, faces serious legal charges following a recorded jailhouse phone call.

According to court records, Hartzler has been charged in Stone County Circuit Court with first-degree terrorist threats and tampering with a judicial proceeding.

The investigation began after the Stone County Prosecutor's Office reviewed a recorded call from December 10, 2025. During the conversation, an inmate at the Stone County Jail was speaking with Hartzler about his legal situation. The inmate reportedly expressed frustration regarding a potential 30-year prison sentence and the court's refusal to lower his bond.

Court documents state that Hartzler became agitated during the call. He allegedly expressed extreme anger toward Stone County and made statements suggesting that the local government buildings should be struck by an RPG missile. He concluded the call by claiming he would "close that whole thing down."

Law enforcement officials emphasized that all calls made to the jail are recorded and stored in the communications system. Callers are notified of this recording through an automated message before the call begins.

At the time the threats were made, the Stone County Courthouse and Sheriff's Office were operational, with approximately 40 employees and 160 inmates across both facilities.

Hartzler was booked into the local jail on June 2. He is currently being held without bond as he awaits his court proceedings.
